August reading

In August, let’s explore our ravenous, roving appetites. What do we yearn to take in, consume, make a part of us? How does hunger enliven and lead? We are hankering for queer liberation and joy. Positively FERAL for it. Satisfy our craving and write your hunger to share on the open mic!

Jona Fine...is a non-binary queer artist and poet working at the intersection of survival, trauma, and tenderness. Outside of their longtime work on a suicide hotline, they have been working on a novel for what feels like forever in the liminal space where it is always 11 AM. They are constantly chasing and connecting with queer joy as a political act of resistance. They co-host an erotic open mic and cuddle party and write love poems about their partner. Their art makes space for softness, strangeness, and the radical act of staying alive.

Liv Mammone...(she/her) is an editor and poet from Long Island. Her poetry has appeared with Button Poetry, The Poetry Foundation, The Academy of American Poets, The Medical Journal of Australia, and in many places. In 2017, she competed for Union Square Slam and was a finalist in the Capturing Fire National Poetry Slam in 2017. A Brooklyn Poets Fellow and Zoeglossia fellow, she is currently an editor at Game Over Books. In 2022, hers was one of the top ten most-read poems at Split This Rock’s poetry database, The Quarry. Her first collection, Fire in the Waiting Room, is available from Game Over Books.

We commit to centering work by BIPOC and LGBTQIAP+ writers and performers. If you know of a writer/performer who has sexual themes in their work and who is in one of these categories, please email us to nominate them/yourself as a future feature.
